Russia is preparing both countries as Saudi Arabia from training cosmonauts for a joint manned space mission, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak was quoted as saying in an official statement on Tuesday.

Russia and Saudi Arabia are both major oil exporters. Cooperation in the energy market as part of oil production deals has been the core of their relationship so far.

“Talking of the two countries’ work on the joint use of outer space, Alexander Novak said that the way the work was going on, especially on the training of the Cosmonauts and the development of a joint manned space mission,” the government said in Russia and Said after an online meeting of Saudi Arabia’s Intergovernmental Commission.

The government’s statement provided no further information.

The Roscosmos Space Agency said in April that if President Vladimir Putin advances it, Russia is set to build its space station with the aim of launching it into orbit by 2030.

The project marks a new chapter in Russian space exploration and an end-to-end international space station aboard the United States with more than two decades of close cooperation.
